The Orange County Symphony is excited to announce the formation of a Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Michael Cleary who has been appointed as Music Director/Conductor for the new ensemble. Mr. Cleary completed his music education at California State University at Fullerton.

Michael Cleary’s music performance experience includes symphony and chamber orchestras at UCLA, El Camino College, Santa Ana College, Westchester and Inglewood Symphonies, La Mirada Symphony and Cal State Fullerton as well as a violist with the Orange County Symphony since it’s rebirth in 2005.

As a guest conductor he includes appearances with the Fullerton Chamber Orchestra and from 1998 to 2007 conductor of the Canyon Hills high School Orchestra; which he developed in 1998 and more than doubled in size.

Auditions are now being scheduled for talented young musicians between 12 years to 18 years of age. The auditions will include excerpts from solo work in progress, sight reading and scales. Mr. Cleary announces rehearsals to start in late August for the 2008-2009 concert season.

The Orange County Symphony is excited to announce the formation of the Orange County Wind Symphony, a 60-member professional Wind and Percussion ensemble that will serve as an extension of the Orange County Symphony and will be included in the 2009 - 2010 Concert Series!! The OCWS will perform music spanning the 16th through 21st centuries. Flexible instrumentation and player rotation provide the members of the OCWS with a variety of responsibilities, challenges, and playing experiences.

The Orange County Symphony is happy to announce the appointment of it's new Orchestra Manager, Ms. Alice Park! We are very excited about the new leadership Ms. Park will bring to our growing organization.

Alice Park began playing the flute when she was 10, but started her formal musical training after obtaining an Accounting degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1993. She received a second Bachelor's degree in music from the University of Maryland at College Park, a Master's degree in flute performance from the University of Iowa, and a Graduate Professional Diploma from the Hartt School in Connecticut where she was a recipient of a talent scholarship from 1999 to 2001. Her teachers include William Montgomery, Tadeu Coelho, John Wion, Christina Smith and Carl Hall.

She has been principal flutist of both the Ludwig Symphony Orchestra as well as the New Atlanta Philharmonic from 2002 to 2007, and in the latter, has appeared as a soloist in 2004, 2005 and 2006. She has also been a member of the Army Ground Forces Band from 2001 to 2006 and was the featured soloist on the 2005 Midwest Tour. Additionally, Ms Park was the guest soloist of the Atlanta Wind Symphony on their Fall Festival Concert in 2006. Having recently moved to southern California, she has been playing piccolo for the Orange County Symphony in the 2007-2008 season. Ms. Park currently resides in Irvine, California with her two dogs, Sammy and Rena.
